Hi, I live in southern MN out in the country and have one dog a Black Lab named Hunter and 51 cats! Seven house cats and the rest barn cats and some tame and some feral, all but 5 have been spayed and neutered so far! There is a heated room for them in the barn with a climbing tree, beds and of course food and water! Very Happy

That's a whole lot of cats! lol I think it's AWESOME you have taken the responsibility to have them spayed/neutered. I have seen some over run barn in my area and the kitties are in such bad shape it made me want to cry! Kudos to you!! Very Happy

Thank you! It gets to be a real problem when you don't get the cats spayed/neutered because they start breeding with each other and that's when you end up with a lot of sick kittens and to me there is nothing sadder then seeing a baby kitten die from sickness-it breaks my heart! I just wish they would offer a cheap spay/neuter clinic every once in awhile! There is nothing like that in this area! cat

There is one in my area. It's sad because alot of people don't take advantage of it like they should. Seeing sick animals is always a hard thing to see, especially when you know it's preventable. What are are you near?

We are about 6 miles outside of Mankato!
The Humane Society in Mankato had a hard time finding vets down here to work with them when they got a grant to fix feral cats. None of the Mankato vets would participate, they had to go to two smaller towns to find vets who would work with them, and it was only for a one time grant!
That really made me mad because they know with a feral cat that it certainly isn't a house pet and most of the time you're trying to fix a whole colony of ferals-you would think they could give you a break!
I tried the Animal Ark I believe it's called in Hastings, at that time I had 10 cats to do and they would come down with their Speuter commuter, but they said 10 wasn't enough to come down for. They said they thought there were more people in this area that wanted to do this and that if I had a place for them to come down and park for the day they would have everyone come here. I said we had a grove they would be more then welcome to park in and they never called back!

I'm going to start a thread in Cat & Kittens. I think this is a good topic to be discussed. It certainly is a big problem in MN. Others who have this problem or know of someone who could benefit from this information could join in the discussionas well.

Thanks so much! I agree with you! These cheap spay/neuter clinics need to be throughout the state, there are alot of states that do this. People alot of times have the wrong idea about feral cats thinking they are usually sick cats when in fact they are usually healthier or as healthy as someones indoor/outdoor cat! I have a friend in California that has a feral cat colony and her motto is "ruining the sex lives of cats in southern California and loving it" Very Happy
